Overview

Our Primary curriculum is designed to maximise learning and create a challenging, rewarding and stimulating school environment. Our students are introduced to an assortment of skills and are encouraged to learn at a pace that helps them become more socially aware young minds with a good sense of self-esteem.

Students in the Primary School follow a combination of two curricula from two: the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) (known as the 'English Stream') or the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) and the Dutch national curriculum (known as the 'Dutch Stream').

International Primary Curriculum (IPC)

NAS was the first school in Indonesia to implement IPC. It provides a cross-curricular, thematic, rigorous teaching structure designed to engage children of all abilities in today’s world. In IPC learning, the focus is on teaching skills to achieve knowledge, leading to understanding using well-planned thematic studies. Science, geography, history, ICT, art, music, technology, society, and Physical Education (PE) are all incorporated into the thematic learning.

Dutch stream

NAS has a sizeable population of Dutch students, whose parents intend to return to the Netherlands once their assignment in Jakarta has completed or when their children reach a certain age. To ensure that the children have an easy transition back into the Dutch school system, NAS is an obvious choice.

Our Dutch Stream combines the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) with the Primary Core Goals of Dutch education. Special attention is paid to specific Dutch cultural and historical features i.e. national events, the Dutch History Canon, the perception of the seasons, Dutch geography and even Dutch television, humour and puns. Dutch students are exposed to certain Dutch television programmes during school hours, like ‘het klokhuis’ and ‘het jeugdjournaal’. This is part of the educational programme that helps students retain and develop their oral and listening efficiency in their mother tongue.

All teachers at the Dutch stream have completed a PABO education and learning assistants are also fluent in Dutch.
