JIS was first founded in 1951 as the Joint Embassy School. In 1978, then became Jakarta International School and transformed into Jakarta Intercultural School in 2014. Nestled in 40 acres lush of tropical gardens, the three campuses (Pattimura Elementary, Pondok Indah Elementary, and Cilandak Middle and High School) are equipped with the state-of-the-art facilities to support our students’ development. JIS offers students a full range of athletic, service, performing arts, visual arts, and academic extracurricular opportunities.
The unique community prepares students for the world renowned universities and real-life challenges through a global learning environment with approximately 2300 students representing more than 60 nationalities. Through intentional and meaningful integration of environmental and service learning, students develop a deeper understanding of what it truly means to be the “best for the world”. JIS prides itself on having numerous student-led club, trips, and initiatives that focus on making a difference the world is seeking.
Accredited by the Council of International Schools and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, JIS offers university preparation primarily for expatriate and Indonesian students from early childhood through grade 12. All JIS graduates earn a high school diploma, and the majority pursues the International Baccalaureate Diploma or takes individual Advanced Placement courses concurrently.
JIS now is also an SPK, Satuan Pendidikan Kerjasama, (Education Cooperation Division) school working with Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia to continue to serve both Indonesian families and those residing from overseas.
The JIS student body includes over 60 nationalities and our faculty hails from about 30 nations. Our community of students, parents, teachers and staff work together as learners who seek continuous growth. As a diverse community, we collaborate in our pursuit of learning in line with our values.
JIS parents contribute actively to school life through the many opportunities offered by our parent volunteer organisations, such as the JIS Parent Teacher Association (PTA), the JIS Parent Welcome, and in running student stores on our campuses.
Our school motto, “Once a Dragon, Always a Dragon,” is heartfelt by those that leave JIS, our alumni in particular. JIS has about 5,000 alumni of which around 500 live in and around the Jakarta area. Many of them have found themselves coming back ‘home’ to Jakarta and have actually made businesses that aim to give back to Indonesia. We have focus on our values, our shared values; we call it learning In Indonesia to be the best for the world.
