Diploma Years Programme

BINUS SCHOOL Simprug established its Diploma Programme (DP) in 2007, with an initial average score which was above the world average.  BINUS SCHOOL Simprug has consistently produced student scores above the world average for 10 years, achieving perfect DP Scores of 45 out of 45 for 3 years in a row.

The IB DP is an academically challenging and balanced programme of education with final examinations that prepares students, aged 16 to 19, for success at university and life beyond. It has been designed to address the intellectual, social, emotional and physical well-being of students. The programme, has gained recognition and respect from the world’s leading universities.

The two-year international curriculum aims to provide students with values and opportunities that will enable them to develop sound judgment make wise choice, and respect others in the global community.

All DP students take six subjects, one from each of the following groups.

Group 1: Studies in Language and Literature (English A, Indonesian A and Korean A)

Group 2: Languages Acquisition (English B, Indonesian B and Mandarin B)

Group 3: Individuals and Society (Business and Management, Economics, History, Information Technology in a Global Society and Psychology)

Group 4: Experimental Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Computer Science)

Group 5: Mathematics (Mathematics HL, Mathematics SL, Mathematical Studies)

Group 6: Arts or Electives (Visual Arts, Music, Literature and Performance, or another subject from Group 3 or 4)

In addition to the subjects, students fulfill three core elements of the Diploma Programme. They are:

  • Extended Essay (EE): Students engage in independent research through an in-depth study of a question relating to one of the DP subjects they are studying, presenting their argument in a structured 4,000 word essay. The EE equips students with the research and writing skills expected by universities.
  • Theory of Knowledge (TOK): TOK develops a coherent approach to learning that unifies the academic disciplines. In this course on critical thinking, students inquire into the nature of knowing and deepen their understanding of knowledge as a human construction. It stimulates critical thinking about knowledge gained inside the various subjects and knowledge gained outside the classroom.
  • Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS): The three strands of CAS enhance students’ personal and interpersonal development through experiential learning and enable journeys of self-discovery. Creativity encourages students to engage in the arts and creative thinking. Activity seeks to develop a healthy lifestyle through physical activity. Service with the community offers a vehicle for a new learning with academic value. Activities range across sports, the arts, technology, language learning, local and international projects, expeditions, leadership training, as well as community and social interaction.

For six years since 2009, BINUS SCHOOL Simprug has been above the world averages.
